The Ghaziabad district administration has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive safety survey of high-rise buildings across the city within a week, following a significant fire at Gaur Green Avenue in Abhay Khand society, Indirapuram.
District Magistrate Ravinder Kumar Mandar stated the survey report will be submitted within seven days, after which corrective measures will be implemented to enhance disaster preparedness. “A detailed safety survey report is expected within seven days, after which corrective measures will be implemented,” he said, emphasising the aim to improve disaster response systems amid rapid urban growth.
The District Disaster Management Committee, chaired by Mandar, reviewed recent fire incidents and preparedness in a meeting involving representatives from 17 departments, including the police, municipal corporation, electricity, fire services, and other safety agencies.
Mandar warned of strict action against breaches of building regulations. He instructed the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to inspect buildings and revoke permissions where violations are identified, particularly involving alterations to approved plans or illegal use of parking spaces impeding emergency access.
Departments were also directed to improve coordination during the peak summer months, especially the electricity department, to avoid hazards related to power overloads.
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Kumar outlined enforcement measures undertaken since the fire. “We convened a meeting of all departments and issued directives related to fire safety. Special instructions were given to address encroachments, illegal constructions, and to strengthen fire-fighting systems,” he stated.
He reported that inspections have prompted enforcement action in multiple housing societies. “In the last audit, about 350 societies were checked; 139 received notices for minor deficiencies, while 52 societies faced legal action for repeated non-compliance,” Kumar said.
Kumar also noted the fire-fighting resources available in the district, which currently include 22 fire tenders, some of them high-capacity vehicles, with additional infrastructure under development. Authorities announced plans to establish new fire stations in high-demand areas to improve emergency response times.
