Humayun Kabir, founder of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AUJP), congratulated the people of West Bengal on Monday for rejecting the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the assembly elections, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of 'looting' the state.

Speaking to reporters, Kabir said, “What can I say? What has happened is good. This was bound to happen. Mamata Banerjee became the CM thrice. She gave so much authority to her nephew. They cheated the people and looted their money. In 15 years, they surpassed the loot which was done by the British looted in 100-200 years. I would like to congratulate the people of Bengal who gave such a reply to TMC, who looted the state.”

Humayun Kabir, expelled from TMC over the Babri Masjid construction controversy in Murshidabad, is currently leading in both Rejinagar and Nowda seats, according to the Election Commission of India. In Rejinagar, TMC's candidate Ataur Rahaman has slipped to third place after the third round of counting, while BJP’s Bapan Ghosh is in second place, trailing by 6,325 votes. In Nowda, TMC's candidate Sahina Momtaz Khan is in third position, following Kabir who leads after seven rounds of counting.

Expressing confidence in his victory, Kabir stated, “I will win both seats and take the certificate home at 3 pm.”

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed the majority mark in the West Bengal elections, ending Mamata Banerjee's bid for a consecutive fourth term. According to Election Commission of India trends as of 1:15 pm, the BJP is leading on 187 seats, while the TMC leads on 92 seats.

BJP supporters raised slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kolkata as the BJP increased its lead. West Bengal recorded its highest-ever voter turnout since independence, with 91.66% participation in Phase II of the assembly elections. In Phase I, the turnout was 93.19%, bringing the combined polling percentage to 92.47%.

In the 2021 West Bengal assembly election, the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee won 213 out of 294 seats with approximately 48% vote share. The BJP emerged as the principal opposition with 77 seats and around 38% of the votes. The Left-Congress alliance did not win any seats.
