International Cricket Council Chairman Jay Shah extended his birthday wishes to Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as he turned 53 on Friday, April 24, 2026.
In a post on X, Shah said, “Wishing our sport’s icon @sachin_rt a very happy birthday. Your amazing contribution to cricket continues to inspire generations across the world to play and watch our great game, while your empathy and humanity has an ongoing and significant impact on society.”
Tendulkar was born on April 24, 1973. He is widely regarded as the most complete batsman of his era and the most prolific run-scorer in cricket history. Holding records for the most centuries in both Test matches and One Day Internationals (ODIs), Tendulkar achieved the feat despite not recording his first ODI century until his 79th appearance.
With 34,357 international runs, he remains the top run-maker in the sport. Across a career spanning over 22 years and 91 days, he achieved multiple milestones that remain unsurpassed. Tendulkar played 200 Test matches-the highest number by any player in that format-amassing 15,921 runs, including 51 centuries and 2,058 fours, the most by any player in red-ball cricket.
Known as India’s “God of Cricket,” he was the fastest to reach 15,000 Test runs, accomplishing the milestone in 300 innings. In ODIs, Tendulkar also holds the record for the longest career and scored 1,894 runs in 1998, the most by a player in a single calendar year for the format, along with nine centuries that year.
He celebrated 145 half-centuries and struck 2,016 fours in ODIs, both records. Tendulkar became the fastest to 18,000 ODI runs, reaching the mark in 440 innings-an exclusive achievement.
Across all formats, he holds the most Player of the Match awards (76), the highest career run total (34,357), the most fifties (264), most nineties (28), and the most fours (4,076).
