Medal prospects were bolstered by wins from Gunjan (48kg), Joyshree Devi (54kg), Ambekar Meetei (50kg), Chandrika Pujari (51kg), and Radhamani Longjam (57kg), all of whom progressed to the semifinals, ensuring India five medals at the event.

During the morning session, Gunjan secured a 5-0 unanimous decision against Azerbaijan’s Gular Huseynova, while Joyshree Devi defeated Japan’s Yura Kanemaru by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the first round.

Ambekar Meetei advanced with a 4-1 win over Japan’s Akira Uekubo in the men’s 50kg category.

In the evening session, Chandrika Pujari (51kg) defeated Spain’s Andrea Buelga Garcia by RSC in the second round, and Radhamani Longjam (57kg) won 4-1 against England’s Siobhan Haley.

Meanwhile, Sahil Duhan (60kg) lost 1-4 to France’s David Harutyunyan in his match.

With five boxers reaching the semifinals, India has secured at least five medals at the tournament, which features young boxers from around the world competing in Youth Olympic weight categories.

The World Boxing Futures Cup, held in Bangkok from March 8 to 15, acts as a key developmental competition, providing valuable international experience for athletes aiming for future global events.

The Indian team will now focus on converting these assured medals into gold at the upcoming semifinal and final bouts.
