India's leading shuttlers PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and mixed doubles duo Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open on Thursday.
Sindhu defeated Japan’s Riko Gunji in straight games, completing the match in 37 minutes. She maintained control throughout and will face top seed An Se-young in the next round.
In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen advanced after Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn retired with only two points played. Lakshya is set to compete against Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the quarterfinals.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan 21-15, 11-21, 21-18. They recovered after losing the second game to take the decider, extending their head-to-head record against the Chinese Taipei pair to 7-0. Their next opponents are Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai, against whom they suffered defeat earlier this year at the All England Open.
In mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto overcame a 8-21 first-game loss to defeat Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi 8-21, 21-17, 21-16. They will face the third-seeded Malaysian pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in a challenging quarterfinal encounter.
