West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has significantly influenced Gujarat Titans' (GT) success this season, with the team winning five of their last six matches since his inclusion, rising to the top of the IPL points table.
Holder took three wickets as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were bowled out for 86 runs while chasing 169 in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
According to CricViz, Holder has claimed 13 wickets in six matches at an average of 10.92, an economy rate of 6.35, and a strike rate of 10.3, leading all players with 15 or more overs bowled in these metrics this season. With the bat, he has scored 58 runs in five innings, averaging 19.33 with a strike rate exceeding 131, and a highest score of 23. In the match against SRH, Holder finished unbeaten on 11 runs off 10 balls, anchoring the innings alongside Washington Sundar. He has also excelled in the field, taking six catches in six matches.
Holder was brought into the playing XI for the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when GT's record stood at three wins and three losses. Since then, his experience, leadership qualities, and versatile skills have strengthened the squad considerably.
In the latest match, SRH chose to field first. GT lost two early wickets for 26 runs before Sai Sudharsan's 61 off 44 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes, steadied the innings. He shared stands of 38 runs with Nishant Sindhu, who scored 22 off 14 balls with three fours and a six, and 60 runs with Washington Sundar, who made 50 off 33 balls including seven fours and a six. GT reached 168 for five in their 20 overs, with Praful Hinge taking 2 for 17 in three overs and Sakib Hussain 2 for 37 in four for SRH. Captain Pat Cummins bowled four overs for one wicket for 20 runs.
During SRH's reply, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Travis Head for a duck early on. Kagiso Rabada took three wickets in four overs, removing Abhishek Sharma (6), Ishan Kishan (11), and Smaran Ravichandran (9), reducing SRH to 32 for four within 5.5 overs. Jason Holder claimed three wickets for 20 runs in four overs, and Prasidh Krishna took two for 23 in three overs as SRH collapsed to 86 all out. SRH captain Pat Cummins top-scored with 19 runs. Rabada was named Player of the Match for his outstanding powerplay bowling.
With eight wins and four losses, Gujarat Titans lead the table on 16 points, while Sunrisers Hyderabad have dropped to third place with seven wins and five losses, accumulating 14 points.
