Jitan Ram Manjhi calls for removal of TMC in West Bengal polls

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi expressed confidence on April 30 that his party will win the West Bengal Assembly elections, stating that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government should be removed from power as it does not provide benefits to the poor.

Speaking ahead of the results, BJP Member of Parliament Saumitra Khan emphasised the high voter turnout in the state, attributing it to the efforts of the Election Commission, central forces, and West Bengal Police. He said, “The biggest factor is that the people of Bengal have actually gone to the polling booth and cast their votes this time, and the credit goes to the Election Commission, central forces and West Bengal Police.” Khan added, “That is the reason there was a 92% turnout, so be rest assured, Mamata is going out this time, and BJP is coming in…my message to TMC workers would be not to engage in violence, if TMC doesn’t come to power, the situation will get worse for them. Peace should prevail in West Bengal.”

The second phase of polling in West Bengal witnessed intense competition across key constituencies. While the TMC highlighted its welfare schemes as a basis for returning to power, the BJP focused on allegations of corruption and law-and-order concerns.

The results of the West Bengal polls will be announced on May 4, together with outcomes from Assam, Keralam, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.

The Election Commission of India reported a voter turnout of 91.66 per cent in the second phase of West Bengal voting up to 7:45 PM. Phase I, held on April 23, recorded 93.19 per cent participation, resulting in a combined turnout of 92.47 per cent across both phases.
