K Annamalai meets BJP chief Nitin Nabin amid speculation over political future

Former Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president K Annamalai met the party's National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday in New Delhi.

He also held discussions with National General Secretary BL Santosh amid rising speculation on social media concerning his political future and reports that he may be planning to launch a new political party.

When questioned on Monday about rumours claiming he intends to leave the BJP and start a new party, Annamalai responded: “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days.” His remarks followed widespread social media debate regarding his next political move.

In anticipation of Annamalai’s birthday on June 4, posters bearing slogans such as “Our Leader, Come and Lead Us” have been displayed on key roads and streets in the city.

This political development follows the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which resulted in a historic shift as TVK won 108 seats on its debut, ending the longstanding dominance of the DMK and AIADMK parties.

After the victory, Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at the Secretariat in Chennai. Alongside Vijay, who obtained the support of 120 MLAs in the 234-member state Assembly, Governor Arlekar administered the oath of office to the new Cabinet. The Cabinet includes ministers ‘Bussy’ N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, KA Sengottaiyan, KG Arunraaj, P Venkataramanan, CTR Nirmal Kumar, A Rajmohan, Keerthana, and KT Prabhu.

In his inaugural speech as Chief Minister, Vijay expressed gratitude to the people for their trust and called for a “new era” of governance founded on secularism and social justice, stating: “Come, let all of us together give Tamil Nadu a fresh new government. This is a new beginning, the start of a new era of secular, social justice,” amidst enthusiastic support from party workers and supporters.
