Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed pacer Saurabh Dubey as a replacement for the injured Akash Deep ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have named England’s David Payne as a replacement for Jack Edwards, the IPL organisers confirmed in a statement.
Akash Deep, a right-arm pacer with 28 wickets in 10 Test matches for India, has been ruled out of the season due to a lumbar stress injury. He will receive treatment from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Medical Team at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.
Deep's absence is a significant loss for KKR, who had released Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman last year following BCCI instructions related to atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. KKR had then recruited Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani after his impressive performance in the T20 World Cup, where he took 13 wickets in six matches. Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, purchased for Rs 18 crores last year, remains sidelined due to injury, while Indian pacer Harshit Rana, who missed the T20 World Cup, is also expected to miss the entire IPL season.
Saurabh Dubey, a left-arm pacer, will join KKR for Rs 30 lakh. He has played three T20 matches without taking a wicket.
David Payne will replace Jack Edwards at SRH. Payne has appeared in one One Day International for England and taken 304 wickets in 233 T20 matches. He will join SRH for Rs 1.5 crore.
Edwards was the second-highest wicket-taker in last year's Big Bash League, with 19 wickets in 13 games at an average of 18.47, including a five-wicket haul. He also scored 133 runs in 10 innings at an average of 22.16 and a strike rate exceeding 168, with a highest score of 46 not out.
