Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla participated in the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Lieutenant General Sagat Singh Rathore in Churu, Rajasthan, on Wednesday.
The event was also attended by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, and other dignitaries.
Paying tribute to Lieutenant General Sagat Singh, Birla described his life as an inspiring example of courage, leadership, and service to the nation. He noted that Singh’s valour during World War II in the Indian Army and his act of hoisting the national flag during the Goa Liberation Movement were remarkable. Birla highlighted Singh's decisive role at the Nathu La border in strengthening India's frontiers and his contribution to the surrender of the Pakistani Army in Dhaka during the 1971 war, which paved the way for the creation of Bangladesh.
Emphasising Rajasthan's reputation for bravery and patriotism, Birla stated that every family in the state embodies a spirit of dedication to the nation. He said the statue serves not only as a memorial but as an inspiration for future generations, encouraging young people to serve the country.
The Lok Sabha Speaker concluded by stating that the bravery and legacy of Sagat Singh are a matter of national pride. “His life teaches that with courage, determination, and dedication, any goal can be achieved,” he said. Birla urged youth to draw motivation from such great heroes and contribute actively to nation-building.
