Long queues of autorickshaws form at Khairatabad petrol station amid fuel shortage concerns

Massive queues of autorickshaws formed at a petrol filling station in Khairatabad on Thursday as drivers rushed to secure fuel for their vehicles.

Local drivers reported waiting in long lines and called on the government to address the fuel crisis and provide relief to autorickshaw operators.

On Thursday, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy described the situation as “very bad,” with long queues at petrol pumps in Hyderabad reflecting growing public panic despite official reassurances. Speaking to ANI, Reddy said, “The situation on the ground is very bad. Even in Hyderabad, you can see huge lines before the petrol pumps to fill the fuel. The panic is gripping despite many statements…The state government should work in coordination with the central government and must ensure that there is no shortage of supplies, and they should instil confidence in the public that the supplies will be there.”

Meanwhile, the Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies Department of Telangana clarified on Tuesday that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or domestic LPG anywhere in the state. A release issued by the PRO, Civil Supplies, Telangana State, stated that the supply chain from oil refineries to local depots remains fully operational with sufficient stock to meet daily requirements across all districts.

The release attributed reports of long queues and temporary “No Stock” signs at certain petrol outlets to unwarranted panic buying driven by false rumours. It stated, “When citizens unnecessarily rush to fill their tanks to full capacity, it creates an artificial scarcity, despite adequate fuel being available at the depots.”

Furthermore, the release noted that recent administrative changes related to advance-payment models by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have caused minor and temporary logistical adjustments for some local dealers.
