Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) scored a commanding 228 for 5 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, propelled by an explosive 63 from Nicholas Pooran and a strong finish from Himmat Singh and Aiden Markram.
Pooran delivered a fluent innings off 21 balls, including eight sixes, while Himmat Singh contributed 40 off 31 balls in the closing stages alongside Markram. MI managed to restrict the run flow in the final three overs, conceding only 22 runs.
After being asked to bat, LSG lost Josh Inglis early but quickly regained momentum as Mitchell Marsh and Pooran took control during the powerplay. The partnership flourished, with Marsh anchoring the innings and Pooran attacking consistently, reaching 90 for one in six overs. Marsh supported with measured stroke play, rotating the strike and punishing loose deliveries.
LSG’s strong start put immediate pressure on the MI bowlers, with Jasprit Bumrah and others unable to contain the batsmen on a flat pitch.
Pooran reached his first fifty of the season off just 16 balls in the seventh over, but Corbin Bosch shifted momentum by dismissing Pooran and, in the same over, removing Marsh for 44. Their 94-run partnership became LSG’s second-highest against MI, after the 109-run stand between KL Rahul and Pooran at the same venue in 2024.
Rishabh Pant’s struggles continued as he was dismissed for 15 by Will Jacks, followed by Akshat Raghuwanshi, who hit a six on his first ball but fell for 11 to Raghu Sharma.
Himmat Singh and Aiden Markram then stabilised the innings, combining steady strike rotation and calculated aggression. Their 68-run partnership for the fifth wicket helped LSG reach 228 for 5.
MI’s notable bowlers included Corbin Bosch with two wickets, while Raghu Sharma, Will Jacks and AM Ghazanfar took one wicket each.
