Manchester United suffered a 1-2 defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford in a Premier League 2025-26 match marked by a red card for United defender Lisandro Martinez, according to the Premier League website.
Leeds took an early lead within five minutes when Noah Okafor capitalised on a poor defensive clearance to score, much to the dismay of the home supporters. The visitors doubled their advantage in the 29th minute with another goal from Okafor, who volleyed in from the edge of the area following a defensive mix-up. Leeds dominated the first half and nearly extended their lead further, with midfielder Ao Tanaka coming close before the break.
Manchester United’s chances of a comeback were severely hindered in the 56th minute when Lisandro Martinez received a straight red card after a VAR review for pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, reducing the hosts to ten men for the remainder of the match.
Despite this, United responded by scoring in the 69th minute through Casemiro, who headed in a cross from Bruno Fernandes. The team pressed for an equaliser with several late chances, but Leeds defended resolutely, clearing attempts off the line and maintaining their lead until the final whistle.
The result was a significant victory for Leeds, improving their chances of Premier League survival, while Manchester United dropped crucial points in their pursuit of European qualification.
Following the loss, Manchester United remains third in the Premier League table with 55 points, level with fourth-placed Aston Villa. Leeds United is 15th with 36 points.
