The Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to field first against the Mumbai Indians, who were led by Suryakumar Yadav in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who was unwell. Pandya’s absence marked the first time the five-time champions played without their regular captain this season.

Openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma began strongly, scoring multiple boundaries in the opening two overs. Bowler Mukesh Kumar, in his second over, dismissed Rickelton and then Tilak Varma with a caught-and-bowled on the fourth delivery, disrupting Mumbai’s momentum.

Following this, scoring slowed, with Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma waiting for scoring opportunities through loose deliveries. The pair added 53 runs for the third wicket over 40 balls before Sharma was dismissed by Axar Patel in the 10th over, finishing with 35 runs off 26 balls, including six boundaries.

Sherfane Rutherford was dismissed in the 12th over, caught near the boundary rope off Vipraj Nigam’s bowling, scoring five runs from seven balls. Suryakumar Yadav reached his half-century but soon after was dismissed LBW by Lungi Ngidi, finishing with 51 runs off 36 balls, which included three fours and two sixes.

Naman Dhir scored 28 runs from 21 balls before being caught off T Natarajan’s bowling, with Tristan Stubbs taking the catch. Mitchell Santner remained not out on 18 and Corbin Bosch on 11, both hitting a couple of boundaries to help Mumbai Indians reach a competitive total of 162 runs.

Mukesh Kumar took two wickets, while Axar Patel, T Natarajan, Lungi Ngidi, and Vipraj Nigam each claimed one.
