In an official statement, the government expressed deep sorrow over the landslide, which occurred at approximately 6:30 am, offering condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed. It also wished a swift recovery to those injured in the incident.

The government is closely monitoring the situation as extreme weather conditions continue to affect various parts of the state. Along with Mon district, the Tuli sub-division in Mokokchung district and other areas have experienced severe impacts, including landslides, flash floods, road blockages, and damage to public infrastructure and private property.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), district administrations, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police, and other departments are engaged in search and rescue operations, evacuating vulnerable residents, restoring essential services, and providing immediate relief to those affected.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has announced an immediate ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased individual and Rs 74,000 to each injured person. Additionally, relief assistance-including food, temporary shelter, essential items, and other eligible support-will be provided to all affected families across the impacted districts.

The government has instructed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure seamless coordination to facilitate timely response, restore connectivity, and support the rehabilitation of affected communities. Continuous assessments are ongoing, with additional assistance to be mobilised as necessary.

The public has been advised to remain vigilant, avoid vulnerable slopes, riverbanks, and landslide-prone areas, and to follow advisories issued by the NSDMA, Home Department, and district administrations. Cooperation with emergency response agencies and reliance on official sources of information is strongly encouraged, while the circulation of unverified reports or rumours is discouraged.

"The Government of Nagaland stands with all affected families during this difficult time and remains committed to extending all assistance, ensuring timely relief and restoring normalcy at the earliest," the statement said.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also expressed sorrow over the tragedy, stating that the government is monitoring the situation closely. In a post on X, he wrote: "Deeply distressing reports of heavy landslides in Mon. My heartfelt condolences to those who've lost loved ones. The State Govt. is closely monitoring the situation. NSDMA, Dist. Admin, DDMA, SDRF, Police, AR & local community are working on ground for search & rescue operations."
