A Naxal area commander carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh was killed during an encounter with security forces in the forests under Chhote Betiya police station limits in Kanker district, Chhattisgarh, police stated on Monday.
Kanker Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha confirmed the identity of the deceased Maoist as area commander Rupi.
A body and a weapon were recovered from the scene of the encounter, officials added.
