Union Minister Piyush Goyal has forecast a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the concluding phase of the 2026 Assembly elections across multiple states.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Goyal stated, “In the elections, there is going to be an unprecedented victory for the BJP and NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.”
He added, “West Bengal is yearning for change and will certainly this time uproot and throw out the anarchic government of Mamata Banerjee, which has done no development. We will win again in Assam, Puducherry, and an AIADMK-BJP government will be formed in Tamil Nadu.”
Also speaking ahead of the results announcement, Union Minister of State and BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje expressed confidence that the party would secure victories across all five states: Keralam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry. She said, “We are confident that we will emerge victorious in all five states. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a multitude of facilities, schemes, and development projects have been implemented over the last ten years. Therefore, we are hopeful that people will surely vote us to power. We are eagerly awaiting tomorrow’s results.”
Targeting Opposition-ruled states, Karandlaje added, “Our aim is to end the era of hooliganism in West Bengal and Kerala.” She also noted the BJP had experienced interest from other political players post-election, saying, “We have seen various political parties approaching us. If we secure a good number of seats, independent candidates and smaller parties will likely join us. We have worked hard towards this goal.”
Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal commented on the elections in four states and one Union Territory, stating, “In all elections, the BJP’s performance is going to do very well…”
Exit polls have projected that the BJP-led NDA is set to retain power for a third successive term. Axis My India predicted the BJP-led NDA would secure between 88 and 100 of 126 seats, with the Congress-led alliance obtaining 24 to 36 seats. JVC forecasted 88-101 seats for the NDA and 23-33 for the Congress alliance, with 0-2 for AIUDF and three for other parties. Matrize projected 85-95 seats for the BJP-led alliance, 25-32 for the Congress alliance, and 6-12 for others.
In West Bengal, exit polls indicated a closely fought contest between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). While some projections, including those from Chanakya Strategies and Matrize, showed an edge for the BJP, others suggested a tighter race with the TMC retaining a significant portion of seats. Smaller parties are expected to have a limited impact on the final outcome.
Security measures have been tightened across Kolkata ahead of the counting day on May 4, with heavy deployment outside several strongrooms, including Sakhawat Memorial Government Girls’ High School in Bhabanipur and Netaji Indoor Stadium.
The results for elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Keralam, Assam and Puducherry will be announced on May 4.
