PM Modi reviews projects worth over Rs 30,000 crore during PRAGATI session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Thursday that projects worth over Rs 30,000 crore were reviewed during the latest PRAGATI session, which included sectors such as railways, power, and road connectivity.

The 51st meeting of PRAGATI, an ICT-enabled, multi-modal platform dedicated to Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, was chaired by the Prime Minister on Wednesday at Seva Teerth, facilitating integrated efforts between Central and State governments.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “During yesterday’s PRAGATI session, projects worth over Rs. 30,000 crore were reviewed. The works covered sectors like railways, power and road connectivity. Aspects relating to ports, Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 and other social sector schemes were also discussed.”

During the meeting, seven critical infrastructure projects across Railways, Power, and Road sectors in nine States worth approximately Rs 30,000 crore were reviewed. The focus was on timelines, inter-agency coordination, and timely issue resolution.

The Prime Minister also reviewed the Ken Betwa Link Project and Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0. Regarding power sector projects, he emphasised accelerating rooftop solar adoption in urban areas, particularly in cities, residential clusters, and public institutions. He stated that rooftop solar should be implemented in mission mode to reduce electricity costs, improve energy security, and promote clean energy at the household and community level, according to an official release.

In reviewing road and port connectivity projects, attention was drawn to developing Vadhavan Port as a model for port-led, multi-modal development. The port is to be integrated with coastal shipping, inland waterways, dedicated freight corridors, high-speed rail connectivity, highways, and airport links, creating a future-ready logistics ecosystem and serving as a national gateway.

The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity for effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, stressing the importance of moving beyond infrastructure creation to ensure measurable outcomes through regular monitoring, citizen participation, and convergence among stakeholders. He urged States to expedite completion of solid waste management infrastructure, including waste processing plants and GOBARdhan plants.

While reviewing the Ken-Betwa River Inter-linking Project, the Prime Minister observed it should serve as a model for other States to resolve inter-State water issues through cooperation, timely clearances, technology-based monitoring, and mission-mode execution. States were encouraged to explore opportunities in river-linking, water conservation, groundwater recharge, and efficient irrigation in an integrated manner to ensure long-term water security.

He further noted that delays in public project implementation cause cost escalations and deprive citizens of timely access to essential facilities and development benefits, impacting lives, regional growth, and public resources. He urged Ministries, Departments, and States to adopt a proactive and time-bound approach to resolve pending issues, remove bottlenecks, and ensure faster execution.

The Prime Minister’s office also reported his emphasis on innovative use of canal networks, including installing solar panels along and over canals for clean electricity generation. This would optimise land use, reduce evaporation losses, generate renewable energy, and create additional economic value from water infrastructure.

At the meeting’s commencement, the Cabinet Secretary informed that, following the Prime Minister’s directions, a system for monthly review of social sector schemes at the State level has been implemented. This aims for regular monitoring, faster resolution of implementation issues, and greater accountability at State and district levels. As part of this initiative, Swachh Bharat Mission is being reviewed at the State level initially.
