Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting at 11:30 am on Saturday in New Delhi to review actions taken by various ministries and departments.
He will subsequently address the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) and the full cabinet meeting at Parliament.
On April 1, PM Modi chaired a special CCS meeting to discuss further initiatives in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict.
The Cabinet Secretary provided a briefing on measures to ensure the supply of petroleum products, especially LNG and LPG, along with sufficient power availability, according to an official release.
The Prime Minister evaluated the availability of critical resources for the general public. He discussed fertiliser availability in the country and steps for ensuring supply during the Kharif and Rabi seasons.
The situation in West Asia worsened following a joint US-Israel military strike on February 28 on Iranian territory, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior figures. This prompted a strong response from Tehran.
The conflict is expected to have significant short-, medium-, and long-term effects on the global economy. Its impact on India was analysed, and both immediate and long-term countermeasures were examined.
A thorough evaluation of critical needs for the public, including food, energy, and fuel security, was conducted. Detailed discussions were held regarding short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to maintain the availability of essential resources.
The impact on farmers and fertiliser requirements for the Kharif season was assessed. The preparations made in recent years to maintain adequate fertiliser stocks are expected to ensure timely availability and food security. Alternate fertiliser sources were also considered to guarantee future supply.
It was also concluded that sufficient coal stocks at power plants will prevent electricity shortages across India.
