Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh on April 28 and 29 to inaugurate and lay foundations for numerous development projects, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

On April 28 at approximately 5 PM, the Prime Minister will take part in a Mahila Sammelan in Varanasi, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various projects valued at around Rs 6,350 crore. He will also address the gathering during the event.

The following morning at about 8:30 AM, the Prime Minister will perform darshan and pooja at Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. He will then travel to Hardoi, where at around 11:30 AM he will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway and deliver an address.

The Mahila Sammelan is expected to attract a large number of women from the region. During this event, the Prime Minister will dedicate over 48 completed projects worth more than Rs 1,050 crore to the nation. Key infrastructure initiatives include the widening of the Varanasi-Azamgarh Road, the commissioning of important Rail Over Bridges at Kazzakpura and Kadipur, and the inauguration of a sewage treatment plant with a 55 MLD capacity in Bhagwanpur.

Additional inaugurated projects will include 30 rural drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the redevelopment of Chandrawati Ghat, tourism development at Sarangnath Temple near Sarnath, and the beautification and renovation of Sant Ravidas Park in Nagwa. Enhancements to public services include a synthetic hockey turf at UP College, a 100-bed old age home in Ramnagar, and a 1MW solar power plant at the Bhelupur Water Treatment Plant. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Sowa Rigpa Bhawan and Hospital at the Central University of Tibetan Studies, integrating traditional medicine with modern healthcare.

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of more than 112 projects valued at about Rs 5,300 crore. These include 13 sewerage and water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0, a 500-bed multi-super-specialty hospital at Shri Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional District Hospital, and the construction of market complexes and office spaces at Bhojuveer and Sigra. Additionally, there will be renovation and rejuvenation of ponds, redevelopment of a 198-bed hospital, construction of a 100-bed critical care block, and development of tourism facilities at important ghats such as Assi Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, and Namo Ghat.

To improve governance and social welfare infrastructure, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for the Integrated Divisional Office, Nagar Nigam office building, and a Government Child Shelter Home and Juvenile Justice Board in Ramnagar. A transfer of over Rs 105 crore as a bonus to Uttar Pradesh milk suppliers associated with Banas Dairy is also planned.

Infrastructure projects include the foundation stone for the Varanasi Junction to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction third and fourth railway line project, which involves constructing a rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga River. This project aims to reduce rail congestion, improve logistics efficiency, enhance multi-modal connectivity, and ensure smoother traffic flow, benefiting Varanasi and Chandauli districts. It will also improve access to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the Ramnagar area, and National Highway-19, while enhancing rail links with eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The Prime Minister will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains: Banaras-Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya-Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus). These trains will offer modern and affordable travel options, enhancing connectivity between Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The Banaras-Pune service will facilitate easier access to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, while the Ayodhya-Mumbai route will improve connectivity to the Shri Ram Mandir Teerth Kshetra, strengthening links between key religious destinations.

The inauguration of the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi district will mark a significant development milestone. The expressway is a 594-kilometre long, six-lane (expandable to eight lanes) access-controlled greenfield high-speed corridor, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 36,230 crore. Passing through 12 districts-Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj-the expressway connects the western, central, and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh.

This project is expected to reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from 10-12 hours to about six hours, improving transportation efficiency. A notable feature is the 3.5 km-long Emergency Landing Facility (airstrip) in Shahjahanpur district, which enhances national security preparedness and adds strategic value alongside economic benefits.

The Ganga Expressway is planned as a major economic corridor with Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Corridors developed across approximately 2,635 hectares in the 12 districts it serves. It aims to lower logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiencies, boost manufacturing competitiveness, and provide farmers with direct access to urban and export markets, thereby improving rural incomes.

In addition, the expressway is expected to stimulate tourism, create new economic opportunities, and generate direct and indirect employment in the region. It will form a backbone for Uttar Pradesh’s broader expressway network, linking several operational and planned corridors such as the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway, Farrukhabad Link Expressway, and a proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar, facilitating high-speed road connectivity across the state.

The Ganga Expressway thus represents more than a transportation project; it is a transformative initiative set to reduce logistics costs, attract industrial investment, enhance agriculture and rural incomes, generate employment, and foster inclusive economic growth across Uttar Pradesh.
