Punjab Kings maintained an unbeaten record in the Indian Premier League 2026 season by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets at the New International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on April 11.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Punjab Kings confronted a strong Hyderabad batting performance which reached 120 without loss in eight overs. However, a resilient bowling effort restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 219 for six.

In reply, Punjab’s openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh provided a rapid start, scoring 57 off 20 balls and 51 off 25 balls respectively. Captain Shreyas Iyer then guided the chase with an unbeaten 69 off 33 balls, leading the team to a total of 223 for four in 18.5 overs.

The victory demonstrated the team's composure and resilience under pressure. Prabhsimran Singh attributed the success to the squad’s mental strength, saying, “When you are going for a very big chase, you have to cash in on the powerplay. At one point, it felt like they could score 250 or even more, but our bowlers made a very good comeback. We have chased successfully in all three matches now, and the quicker we adapt to the conditions, the better cricket we will play.”

He also praised the synergy among the batsmen. “Priyansh is batting very well, and we enjoy playing together. Having clarity from the captain and coach is very important; we motivate each other a lot, and that shows on the field during these big chases,” he added.

A pivotal moment was when captain Shreyas Iyer introduced Shashank Singh into the bowling attack. Shashank took two crucial wickets in the same over, dismissing Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, which curtailed the opposition’s momentum. Prabhsimran explained, “Our captain brought Shashank into the attack because he has gotten Abhishek out before. Getting him and Head out in the same over brought us right back into the game. It was a great strategy that worked perfectly for us today.”

Highlighting the coaching staff's support, Prabhsimran concluded, “We have total clarity and backing. When you have that, you can play high-risk cricket without the fear of getting out. It allows you to go with your full flow.”

Punjab Kings will next face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16, 2026.
