Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) reinforced their status as one of the most formidable chasing teams in Indian Premier League (IPL) history with a five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) on January 31, 2026. This win also elevated RCB into an elite group of teams with the most home wins at a single venue.
By defeating GT at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, RCB secured their 50th win at this ground, including Super Over triumphs. This achievement places them fourth among IPL teams for most wins at a single venue, trailing Mumbai Indians (58 wins at Wankhede), Kolkata Knight Riders (55 in Kolkata), and Chennai Super Kings (53 in Chennai). Sunrisers Hyderabad rank fifth with 40 wins in Hyderabad.
The victory further enhanced RCB’s reputation for successful chases of 200-plus runs in the IPL. The team chased down a target of 206 runs against GT in 2026, marking their fifth successful chase of 200 or more runs in league history. Their other notable successful chases include 228 against Lucknow Super Giants in 2025, 204 against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2010, 202 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2026, and 201 against GT in Ahmedabad in 2024.
This record ranks RCB among the most successful teams in IPL history when pursuing targets above 200 runs, alongside Punjab Kings (10 such wins), Mumbai Indians (6), Rajasthan Royals (5), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (5).
The RCB-GT rivalry has also featured a persistent trend of the chasing side winning; all seven matches between the two teams have been won by the chasing team, with RCB winning four times and GT three times.
In the 2026 season at home, RCB have demonstrated dominance by winning four out of five matches in Bengaluru, with their sole defeat coming against Delhi Capitals.
During the chase of 206, GT’s pacer Mohammed Siraj took an early wicket, dismissing RCB opener Jacob Bethell when the score was 26/1 after three overs. However, RCB’s top order responded strongly. Virat Kohli scored 81 runs off 44 balls, setting the foundation with a half-century, while Devdutt Padikkal provided substantial support with 55 runs from 27 balls. The pair compiled a 115-run partnership in 59 balls, maintaining a manageable required run rate.
Following the dismissals of Kohli and Padikkal in quick succession, the contest tightened as Rashid Khan and Manav Suthar claimed vital wickets, leaving RCB at 175/5 in 16 overs. The middle order faltered with the losses of Rajat Patidar (8) and Jitesh Sharma (10). Facing 31 runs from the final four overs, Krunal Pandya emerged as the decisive figure, scoring an unbeaten 23 runs off 12 balls. He aggressively attacked the GT bowlers, including taking 15 runs off the 18th over. Tim David contributed an unbeaten 10 runs in 9 balls.
Krunal sealed the victory in the 19th over by pulling a short delivery from Jason Holder to deep square leg, scoring the winning single to bring up 206/5 in 18.5 overs.
This win awarded RCB two crucial points, elevating them to second place in the IPL 2026 points table with 10 points from seven matches, comprising five wins and two losses.
