Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in the 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
RCB joined Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as the only teams to successfully defend the IPL crown. Led by Rajat Patidar, RCB restricted GT to 155 for 8 before chasing the target with five wickets and two overs to spare.
RCB owner Kumar Mangalam Birla praised the team’s unity, stating, “It’s a great team, they worked seamlessly together, very rare to see such a bonded team. I think there would be a hat-trick next year.”
Gujarat Titans Chief Operating Officer Colonel Arvinder Singh described the match as interesting and commended his team’s effort despite the loss, saying, “It was a pretty interesting match. What is more important is that despite scoring fewer runs, our team put its heart out there and gave its best on the field. We are very proud of them.”
After being put into bat first, GT posted 155 for 8 in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar scored an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls with five fours, while Nishant Sindhu contributed 20 runs off 18 balls, including three fours. The RCB bowling attack was led by Rasikh Dar Salam with 3 wickets for 27 runs, alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 for 29) and Josh Hazlewood (2 for 37).
In response, RCB began with a 62-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer, who made 32 off 16 balls hitting four boundaries and two sixes, and Virat Kohli. Despite GT reducing RCB to 132 for 5 at one stage, Kohli’s unbeaten 75 off 42 balls, featuring nine fours and three sixes, steered the team to victory with two overs remaining.
This triumph marked RCB’s second IPL title and their fourth overall Indian franchise cricket trophy, including two titles in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
