Real Madrid, Sporting CP, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Arsenal have secured their places in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals following decisive victories in the round of 16.
Real Madrid, who have won the competition 15 times, advanced by defeating Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, achieving a 5-1 aggregate victory. Manchester City's Bernardo Silva received a red card for a handball in the 20th minute, and Vinicius Jr converted a penalty in the 22nd minute to give Madrid the lead. City's Erling Haaland scored in the 41st minute, but an extra-time goal from Vinicius Jr sealed City's third consecutive Champions League elimination at the hands of Real Madrid.
Sporting CP produced a remarkable comeback against Bodo/Glimt in Lisbon. After a 0-3 deficit in the first leg, Sporting CP won the second leg 5-0 to progress with a 5-3 aggregate. Goncalo Inacio scored in the 34th minute before the half-time break. In the second half, goals by Pedro Goncalves (61st minute), Luis Suarez (78th minute, penalty), Maximiliano Araujo (92nd minute), and Rafael Nel (120+1 minute) completed the turnaround in front of passionate home fans.
PSG impressed by outplaying Chelsea with an 8-2 aggregate score, including a 3-0 victory in London. Early goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (6th minute) and Bradley Barcola (14th minute) extended PSG's lead to 7-2 by half-time. Chelsea's Senny Mayalu scored in the 62nd minute, but PSG's dominance concluded the English club's campaign. Chelsea were eliminated in the round of 16 after reaching the quarterfinals in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
Arsenal secured a quarterfinal berth by defeating Leverkusen 2-0 at home, winning 3-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Goals from Eberechi Eze (36th minute) and Declan Rice (63rd minute) highlighted Arsenal’s performance. Eze scored his fourth goal in seven games by controlling a pass from Leandro Trossard before finishing cleanly, while Rice capitalised on a clearance and scored from the edge of the box.
