Special Electoral Roll Observer Subrata Gupta stated that security deployment for repolling in 15 booths of South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal will remain at the same scale but with enhanced vigilance.

Gupta commented on the arrangements on Friday, saying, “The deployment will be at the same scale, but with more attention…”

He also mentioned that a detailed report on the situation has already been submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI), which will make the final decision.

The Election Commission announced repolling in 15 polling stations in South 24 Parganas on Friday following reports of tampering with electronic voting machines (EVMs) during the polling held on April 29, in the second phase of the Assembly elections. The repolling will take place at 11 booths in the Magrahat Paschim Assembly constituency and 4 booths in the Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency on May 2, according to the EC.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, the EC stated that repolling was ordered based on inputs from the state poll machinery and will be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm.

The final phase of polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded at 6 pm on April 29, with a notable voter turnout reaching 90% before closing. Security measures have also been implemented at strong rooms in Howrah in preparation for the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
