Sonali Shingate highlights scientific training key to India's Asian Games kabaddi camp

Bellary (Karnataka) - India's women's kabaddi probables are undergoing a high-performance camp at the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Bellary, where all-rounder Sonali Shingate emphasises the importance of scientific training and recovery for improving performance.

Shingate, a member of India's gold medal-winning squad at the 2025 Kabaddi World Cup in Dhaka and the silver medal-winning team at the 2018 Asian Games, brings extensive experience to the camp. Organised by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) and Mashal Sports, the camp combines seasoned players with emerging talent.

Reflecting on the sessions, Shingate said, “The focus on strength and conditioning here is something new for many of us. It’s helping us understand how to train better and improve our overall performance.”

With nearly ten years at the highest level, she highlighted the structured, science-based methods being implemented at IIS since March 27. “The training is tough, but recovery is equally important, and that’s being managed very well here. It’s helping our bodies adjust quickly,” she said.

Coming off a second-place finish at the 72nd Women's Senior National Kabaddi Championship in Hyderabad with the Indian Railways, Shingate stressed the balance between intensity and recovery in a high-performance setting. “Earlier, we didn’t always focus enough on recovery and managing workload, which sometimes led to injuries. With this kind of scientific approach, players can stay fitter and perform better,” she added.

The camp runs until April 2 and fosters a competitive environment where younger players challenge established athletes. “Training together motivates both seniors and juniors. We push each other to improve, and that healthy competition helps raise everyone’s level,” Shingate concluded.
