Sri Lanka has gained strong momentum ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 with convincing victories over Bangladesh. After winning the ODI series 2-1, Sri Lanka secured the first two matches of the three-game T20I series, bolstering their confidence ahead of the tournament.
In the opening T20I, Sri Lanka posted 161 runs, thanks to solid innings from Imesha Dulani (55) and Harshitha Samarawickrama (61). Their disciplined bowling restricted Bangladesh to 136, resulting in a 25-run win in the series opener, according to the ICC.
The second T20I saw another strong performance from Sri Lanka. Batting first, they scored 154 runs, with Chamari Athapaththu contributing 42 and Harshitha Samarawickrama 49. Kavisha Dilhari’s bowling figures of 2/15 helped restrict Bangladesh to 133, securing a 21-run victory.
The third and final T20I will provide Sri Lanka an opportunity to finalise their lineup prior to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, commencing on June 12. Having participated in every edition since 2009, Sri Lanka have yet to reach the knockout stages. They will begin the tournament against hosts England, which is also the opening match of the event.
For Bangladesh, the series so far has been disappointing. The Tigresses have struggled in the first two T20Is and will aim to improve in the final game. Following the Sri Lanka series, Bangladesh will compete in a tri-series against Scotland and the Netherlands, offering vital preparation.
Since debuting in 2014, Bangladesh have not progressed to the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup. They will commence their 2026 World Cup campaign against debutants the Netherlands on June 14.
