The 2026 schedule features 10 core sports and six para-sports, omitting disciplines like wrestling, hockey, cricket, badminton, and table tennis that have previously contributed significantly to India’s medal tally.
Indian able-bodied athletes are competing in eight sports: athletics, boxing, weightlifting, judo, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, bowls, and swimming. Para-athletes will participate in five sports, including para-athletics, 3×3 wheelchair basketball, para-powerlifting, para-swimming, and para-track cycling.
On Thursday, Pinki Singh and Rupa Rani Tirkey commenced their Commonwealth Games journey with a closely contested victory in the women's pairs lawn bowls event. Meanwhile, Putul Sonowal upset reigning world champion Ryan Bester of Canada in the men's singles lawn bowls competition at the Scottish Event Campus, according to Olympics.com.
The Commonwealth Games 2026 are taking place from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, with India fielding more than 120 athletes across eight able-bodied and five para-sports, aiming to build on its strong legacy at the event.
