Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin commenced the party's campaign for the 2026 Assembly elections from Thiruvarur, the hometown of the late DMK leader M Karunanidhi.
Speaking at a public event, Stalin referred to the DMK’s “superstar manifesto” unveiled at Anna Arivalayam and expressed confidence in the alliance’s forthcoming victory. He stated, “I am a son of the soil, of Kalaignar. I am asking you all, is victory confirmed? Is the victory you are going to ensure for these four confirmed?”
He described Thiruvarur as “DMK’s oor” (land), emphasising its importance as the place that shaped Karunanidhi and the party’s ideological foundation. Stalin characterised the campaign as the start of a crucial electoral journey to restore the DMK-led alliance to power.
The Chief Minister appealed to voters to support key alliance candidates, urging backing for DMK’s Poondi Kalaivanan in Thiruvarur, highlighting his close ties to the people and prior electoral success. He also advocated for TRB Rajaa in Mannargudi, praising his role in Tamil Nadu’s industrial development, and CPI candidate K Marimuthu in Thiruthuraipoondi, referring to him as a committed socialist leader.
Additionally, Stalin encouraged party members to work for the victory of alliance candidate Mohammad Mubarak in Nannilam and stressed the need for unity among alliance partners. He said, “All these four, please vote for them as your representatives, as your voice in the Assembly.”
Reaffirming his confidence, Stalin mentioned that he had assured alliance partners of victory before launching the campaign: “Like your assurance, I invited our alliance partners to Arivalayam and assured them victory. Only then I set off to Thiruvarur.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udayanidhi Stalin conducted an election campaign in the Dharmapuri area on Tuesday ahead of the state Legislative Assembly elections.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled for April 23, 2026, to elect all 234 members, with the counting of votes planned for May 4.
