Tamil Nadu CM Stalin calls DMK manifesto a 'superstar' with key welfare pledges

Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party president MK Stalin described the party's manifesto for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections as a 'superstar' on Sunday, announcing a range of welfare initiatives targeting women, families, youth, and farmers.

Speaking at the manifesto unveiling event in Chennai, Stalin noted, “DMK election manifesto has always been a ‘hero,’ but this time, it is a ‘superstar’,” emphasising the document’s aim for a greater impact and wider reach.

The manifesto focuses on “smart economic multipliers,” which Stalin said would ensure monetary support boosts local economies, supports small businesses, improves skills, and generates long-term benefits, while balancing development and welfare. He also highlighted a shift towards choice-based governance and a focus on long-term planning rather than short-term measures.

Key announcements include increasing the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai to Rs 2,000 per month with new beneficiaries added annually, and the continuation of free bus travel for women under the Vidiyal Payanam scheme.

The Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme will be extended up to Class 8. Families will receive an “Illa Tharasi” coupon worth Rs 8,000 to assist women in purchasing household items, and medical coverage will expand to Rs 10 lakh, including families with annual incomes up to Rs 5 lakh. Pensions for senior citizens, widows, and unmarried women over 50 years will increase to Rs 2,000 per month.

For youth, the government pledges skill training for 500,000 individuals with a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 under the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, while aiming to attract Rs 18 lakh crore in investments and create 50 lakh jobs over five years. Financial assistance for college students under the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan schemes will rise to Rs 1,500 per month, and 35 million free laptops will be distributed.

Farmers will receive free modern electric pump sets without meters for over 2 million beneficiaries. Additionally, procurement prices will increase to Rs 3,500 per quintal for paddy and Rs 4,500 per tonne for sugarcane.

In housing and infrastructure, the government plans to build 1 million concrete houses through various schemes, allocate Rs 10,000 crore for rural roads, develop four global cities, and construct 50 Semmozhi Poongas across the state.

Regarding governance, Stalin said that demands registered under “Unga Kanava Sollunga” would be prioritised. Doorstep service delivery will be provided through “Ungaludan Stalin” and “Nalam Kaakkum Stalin” camps. A single application is planned to grant access to 1,000 government services. Pensions for differently abled persons will increase to Rs 2,500 per month, with the maintenance allowance raised to Rs 4,000 for severely affected individuals.
