Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav will campaign alongside Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in Coimbatore and Tiruppur on Saturday to support the Secular Progressive Alliance as Tamil Nadu prepares for Assembly elections on April 23.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is also scheduled to hold an election meeting this evening at a private venue in Thuraiyur, Tiruchirappalli district, starting around 4 PM.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive at Tiruchirappalli International Airport from Chennai and then travel by helicopter to Thuraiyur, landing at a helipad established at Zamindar Higher Secondary School before proceeding by road to the venue.
At the event, Rahul Gandhi will campaign for nine candidates from the Secular Progressive Alliance contesting various Assembly constituencies in Tiruchirappalli district. Tamil Nadu Minister KN Nehru and Perambalur Member of Parliament Arun Nehru are expected to attend. According to All India Youth Congress General Secretary Vichu Lenin Prasad, all nine candidates will be present.
Speaking to ANI, Vichu Lenin Prasad described the occasion as a proud moment in his political career, emphasising Rahul Gandhi’s visit to his constituency as significant. He stated that the leader will campaign for candidates representing the Congress, DMK, and alliance partners.
He also mentioned preparations for the event, including stage setup, arranging the auditorium, and installing shades to cope with the summer heat.
Tamil Nadu will vote in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. The primary contest is between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance led by AIADMK alongside BJP and PMK.
