Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated the 13th Asian Textile Conference (ATEXCON 2026) on April 4, a significant global summit for the textile and apparel industry organised jointly by the Telangana government and the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).
The event was attended by Ministers D Sridhar Babu and Tummala Nageswara Rao.
The Chief Minister outlined Telangana's ambition to transform into the textile capital of South Asia by 2047. He emphasised that the government offers industrialists and investors top-tier infrastructure, land, power, water, incentives, and swift execution. "As part of Telangana Rising vision and the goal to become one trillion dollar economy by 2034 and a three trillion dollar economy by 2047, we have policies that can match the best globally and most importantly, We have the best human resources," he stated.
Highlighting Telangana's renowned textile traditions, such as Pochampally Ikats, Gadwal sarees, Warangal durries and Narayanpet weaves, he described textile as "not just an industry but a lifeline for the state's weaving communities." He added, "There are historic reasons why Telangana is a leader in textiles. We are one of the largest producers of cotton in India. Our cotton is known globally for quality and richness."
Revanth Reddy also underscored India's rich history in textile creation, citing centuries of art and culture perfecting traditional textiles. "As per our tradition, as Chief Minister of Telangana, I carry divine dress for Lord Sri Rama at Bhadrachalam temple on Sri Rama Navami," he said, recalling the historic trade during the Nizam era when traders worldwide came to Hyderabad to purchase clothes and pearls.
He asserted Telangana possesses both the "skill and will" to become a leading textile destination and referred to developments such as the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park at Warangal and multiple apparel parks. "We are leaders in many verticals, from deep-tech to pharma and life-sciences, from aero-space to defence, from manufacturing to energy," he added.
Addressing over 1,200 delegates from textile centres across India and globally, the Chief Minister stated, "If you have a vision, we are your perfect partners for global success. Together, we can create an end-to-end textile ecosystem which can be a game-changer for the world." He also emphasised Telangana's potential role across the global value chain: "From the cotton fields of Telangana to fashion shows in London, New York, Paris, Milan, Tokyo or Dubai, we will be your partners across the value chain."
Revanth Reddy noted Hyderabad's status as a global film production hub, mentioning Netflix's recent establishment of Eyeline Studios and the presence of Tollywood, Bollywood, and Hollywood productions. "We will encourage the film industry to source their fashion also from us," he said.
The government's vision includes the creation of green textile hubs prioritising environmental sustainability. "We will be skilling our youth, especially women's workforce, so they can combine traditional knowledge with the latest tools in designing, cutting and stitching," he explained.
The Chief Minister highlighted Telangana's achievements in global vaccine and medicine production and noted that the state is now a manufacturing centre for Apple EarPods, with ambitions to produce fashion wear for the world market.
