Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy unveiled a statue of NT Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, a matinee idol and former Chief Minister of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said, “Unveiling the statue of NTR, who was affectionately called Anna (Brother), is a great memory that will remain etched in my mind for a lifetime. It is not merely a statue but also an inspiration that rises above the realm of politics.”

Revanth Reddy objected strongly to any criticism of his decision to unveil the statue of NT Rama Rao, a leader from the Congress party, describing NTR as a figure of national pride beyond caste, religion, and region. He highlighted that NTR had nurtured many leaders, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The Chief Minister also criticised KTR, who was named Taraka Rama Rao inspired by NTR, for his opposition to the statue. He stated, “There is no need to pay any heed to the words of such impostors.”

Recalling NTR’s significant contributions, Revanth Reddy mentioned efforts such as abolishing the Patel-Patwari system and enabling the poor to live with dignity. He said the distribution of fine rice by the government continues NTR’s legacy of the “Rs. 2 per kilo rice scheme.” Additionally, NTR’s initiatives on saree distribution to women and providing political opportunities to weaker sections led to qualitative improvements in people’s lives.

The Chief Minister reflected on the valuable contributions of the “3 Gems”-Dr Ambedkar, Indira Gandhi, and NTR-to the nation. He urged everyone to seek inspiration from these figures, noting that Babasaheb Ambedkar drafted the Indian Constitution and empowered the poor by granting voting rights, Indira Gandhi introduced land reforms and secured land to the poor, and NTR was a leader known for integrity, honesty, and an iron will. “Indira Gandhi is a generation and NTR an era,” he added.

Revanth Reddy said that decisions by the People’s Government and its delivery of people-centric governance reflect the spirit of Indira Gandhi and NTR. He stated that the government was already working to empower one crore women to become millionaires, remarking that Rajiv Gandhi introduced women’s reservation, which NTR implemented in true spirit.

Highlighting efforts to elevate farmers, the Chief Minister outlined several initiatives, including filling 65,000 government posts and spending Rs 60,000 crore on women’s welfare. He sought the public’s cooperation and reiterated that the People’s Government aims to remain in power until 2034.

Regarding urban development, Revanth Reddy reaffirmed that Hyderabad is being developed to international standards. He spoke about the Bharat Future City project, to be established over 30,000 acres, inviting global corporations to invest and create employment opportunities for youth.
