Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy visited the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam temple in Tirupati district on April 3, where he offered prayers to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
The visit occurred shortly after the DGP’s strong appeal on March 31 for underground Maoist cadres to renounce violence, surrender, and reintegrate into society under the State Government’s rehabilitation policy. Recalling a prior appeal by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the DGP urged the Maoists to come out of hiding, return to their families, and embrace a peaceful existence.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy highlighted that due to sustained efforts by Telangana Police over the past two years, 721 Maoists from Telangana and Chhattisgarh, including four Central Committee members, 19 State Committee members, and 36 Divisional Committee members, have surrendered and rejoined the mainstream. All those surrendered have received financial assistance and benefits under the State Government’s comprehensive rehabilitation policy to support respectable lives in their native villages.
The DGP made a special appeal to Telangana natives currently active in Maoist groups in other states: Muppalla Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathi (72), Pusunuri Narahari alias Santosh (57), Vartha Shekhar alias Mangthu (51), Jode Ratnabai alias Sujatha (68), Nakka Susheela alias Rela (51), and Rangaboyina Bhagya alias Rupi (43), encouraging them to return and utilise the rehabilitation scheme’s benefits.
He assured that the State Government would facilitate advanced medical treatment in Hyderabad for Central Committee member Ganapathi, who reportedly faces health issues. The DGP recalled Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s personal appeal to Ganapathi during a press conference on March 7, when 130 Maoists surrendered.
Noting the increasing willingness of cadres from other states to surrender, the DGP urged family members and relatives of those still underground to counsel and guide them towards a peaceful path. He reiterated that lasting solutions can only be attained through democratic means and called once again on Maoist cadres to abandon violence and become partners in development.
