Telangana seeks central support to expand T-Fibre project connecting 3,089 villages

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and State IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu held a video conference with Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on May 28 to discuss the challenges in developing the state's fibre network and the urgent need for central assistance.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister outlined Telangana’s vision to provide reliable, high-speed internet connectivity to every village and household, and referred to assurances from the Union government to realise this goal.

The Chief Minister announced plans to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) dedicated to constructing a strong fibre network across Telangana. The T-Fibre network aims to connect every Gram Panchayat using ring architecture. In the first phase, digital connectivity will be restored in 3,089 villages across the former districts of Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy, and Khammam, areas currently experiencing damaged network infrastructure, according to an official release.

These villages will be connected on par with the rest of the state under the Amended BharatNet Program, utilising modern fibre infrastructure designed to meet future demands.

To ensure smooth implementation of the Amended BharatNet Program, the Chief Minister raised key issues with the Union Minister, including expediting the finalisation of the implementation agreement, accelerating the release of pending funds, and advancing the T-Fibre project within the state. The meeting also reviewed the introduction of a clear policy framework related to transferring ring network assets from the Mandal level to the Gram Panchayat level and the establishment of the ‘Digital Bharat Nidhi’ fund. Scindia assured full cooperation from the Union government.

During the conference, the state government approved the establishment of the SPV and signed an agreement with the Centre to lay the groundwork for a truly ‘Digital Telangana’. Officials noted that Telangana is moving decisively towards a unified digital backbone. The ring architecture will ensure uninterrupted broadband services even if one route experiences disruption, providing rural Telangana with continuous, high-speed internet connectivity in the future.

Participation in the video conference included Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister B. Ajit Reddy, Joint Secretary of the IT Department D. Anudeep, and other senior officials.
