The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar, in partnership with the Indian Army, launched a specialised orientation and physical training camp on April 9 to prepare local youth for the Ladakh Police recruitment.
The week-long programme, running until April 15, 2026, aims to improve the readiness and participation of local candidates in the recruitment process. It is conducted under the supervision of Principal Amjad Ali Abassi and Captain Abhilash of the Indian Army, whose leadership has been key to its development.
The training is designed to build the physical fitness and mental resilience necessary to pass the Physical Endurance Test (PET), which forms a vital part of the police recruitment examination. The schedule includes exercises covering long-distance running, shot put, and long jump, alongside military-style drills focusing on stamina, discipline, time management, and psychological endurance.
The regimen is adapted for high-altitude performance, ensuring that participants are prepared to meet the demands of the region. Daily sessions are conducted by experienced instructors Kaushik from the Indian Army and Hussain Ali, Physical Training Instructor at GDC Zanskar.
The programme is offered free of charge to college students, providing them with structured physical activities, personalised guidance, and refreshments after each training session.
In addition to physical preparation, the initiative seeks to inspire and guide local youth towards careers in the police and other uniformed services. This collaboration between GDC Zanskar and the Indian Army serves as a proactive example of youth empowerment, community engagement, and capacity building in the remote area of Zanskar.
