Two elderly women were discovered deceased inside a house in New Rajinder Nagar, Central Delhi, on the morning of May 28, according to police.
Delhi Police received information at approximately 10:30 AM about a foul smell coming from House No. R-852 in New Rajinder Nagar. The report was made by a maid who works in the porch and returned after being absent for two days.
Upon arrival, the Investigating Officer and staff found two elderly women-Chandra Kanta, around 80 years old, and Saroj Bala, also approximately 80-unconscious inside a room. One body was located on a bed and the other on the floor. Police had to break open the gate due to the foul odour.
An inspection of the single-storey house, which has four entry points, revealed no signs of forced entry, ransacking, or disturbance. Preliminary enquiries indicated that the two women had lived together for a long period; Saroj Bala was unmarried and Chandra Kanta was her sister-in-law. Authorities stated one of the women had asthma.
The Crime Team, Forensic Science Laboratory team, and CAT Ambulance were called to the scene. Both women were pronounced dead after examination.
Delhi Police stated, “No external injury marks have been found on either of the bodies. During preliminary inspection and enquiry from neighbours, no foul play has come to notice at this stage; however, all possible angles are being thoroughly examined.”
The bodies were sent to RML Hospital for post-mortem procedures under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the post-mortem. Further details are awaited.
