The District Magistrate and Collector of Unakoti, Megha Jain, emphasised the importance of establishing strong market linkages for products made by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) during a Buyer-Seller Meet organised by the Unakoti District Mission Management Unit of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) on June 1.

The event took place at the Conference Hall of the District Magistrate’s Office and was attended by SHG representatives from the Kailashahar and Kumarghat subdivisions, local traders, buyers, and district officials. Additional District Magistrate Sagar Shobhan Debnath was also present.

Addressing attendees, DM Megha Jain highlighted the diverse range of products created by SHG women, including soaps, green tea, sanitary pads, toys, garments, eco-friendly bags made from water hyacinth, bamboo shoots, pineapple products, baby corn, and cleaning materials. She said, “Our sisters are continuously learning new skills and creating quality products. However, true women’s empowerment can only be achieved when these products find the right buyers and sustainable markets.”

Megha Jain called on local traders and business establishments to purchase SHG products and distribute them through their retail outlets to establish a reliable market ecosystem for rural women entrepreneurs.

In April, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu handed out ducklings to women members of SHGs at Lok Bhawan to support rural livelihoods and sustainable income generation. The programme covered five SHGs from the Old Agartala RD Block and was part of livelihood enhancement initiatives by the TRLM.

The Governor praised the mission’s work in creating employment opportunities and increasing income possibilities for rural communities. CEO of TRLM Tarit Kanti Chakma, West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Vishal Kumar, and other officials were present at the distribution event.
