Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal conducted high-level review meetings on January 31 to assess the progress of urban development and power sector projects in Tripura.

He emphasised the importance of timely implementation of ongoing schemes and infrastructure initiatives.

The meetings were held at the State Guest House in Agartala and attended by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and senior officials from various departments.

During the sessions, the Union Minister reviewed the status of various central and state-sponsored programmes and discussed measures to ensure their effective execution and punctual completion.

The first review concentrated on the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) implementation in the state. Discussions focused on enhancing scientific waste management systems, upgrading sanitation infrastructure, and accelerating efforts to make urban areas cleaner and free of plastic.

Manohar Lal evaluated progress made by urban local bodies and explored ways to advance sanitation and waste processing facilities throughout the state.

In a separate session concerning the power sector, the Union Minister called for expedited reforms to secure uninterrupted electricity supply across Tripura. The review addressed ongoing centrally funded power infrastructure projects and future plans to modernise the state's electricity distribution network.

Discussions included strategies to reduce transmission losses, improve operational efficiency, and enhance service delivery for consumers in urban and rural areas.

Officials indicated that the high-level review was a significant opportunity to strengthen coordination between the Central and State Governments, providing new impetus for Tripura's infrastructure and energy development plans.
