US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government.

The ceremony, scheduled for May 12 in Guwahati, is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, senior Union ministers, and chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from several National Democratic Alliance-ruled states.

In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma stated that he, along with Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog, would be sworn in as ministers during the ceremony, which will also be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He added, “Happy to announce that the following four colleagues of mine will take oath as Ministers tomorrow along with me in the august presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji -Shri Rameswar Teli, Shri Atul Bora, Shri Charan Boro Smt. He said, “My heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of them. Together, we will continue to work with full dedication for a stronger, more developed and prosperous Assam.”

The swearing-in follows the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s decisive victory in the Assam Assembly elections, securing a third consecutive term in the state.

The NDA won 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, with the Bharatiya Janata Party winning 82 seats and its alliance partners, Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front, winning 10 seats each.

The opposition Congress-led alliance secured 19 seats, while Raijor Dal and the All India United Democratic Front won two seats each. The Trinamool Congress secured one seat, and Assam Jatiya Parishad did not win any seats.
