Uttarakhand CM Dhami unveils solar awareness booklet to promote green future

TheNewsMill 2 weeks ago

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami unveiled the 'Solar Awareness Souvenir Booklet' prepared by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) at the Chief Minister's Camp Office on Thursday.

He described the launch not just as the release of a booklet but as a symbol of the collective commitment to building a bright, self-reliant, and green future for Uttarakhand.

The Chief Minister highlighted the global challenges of climate change, energy crises, and environmental concerns, stating that solar energy is a necessity for securing the future of coming generations. He noted that under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance, Uttarakhand has achieved significant milestones that serve as a source of inspiration for the country.

Dhami mentioned that the state exceeded its initial goal of installing 40,000 rooftop solar plants ahead of schedule, with nearly 95 per cent of the overall target already completed. Uttarakhand has emerged among the top-performing states in implementing the PM Surya Ghar Yojana effectively.

Since 2024, the state has recorded nearly a tenfold increase in solar energy capacity within just two years, installing residential rooftop solar systems with a total capacity of around 290 MW. The Chief Minister described this as a historic achievement towards building an energy self-reliant Uttarakhand.

He commended the coordinated efforts of UPCL, UREDA, regional officials, and all associated departments and institutions, attributing the success to the collective commitment and dedication of Team Uttarakhand. Initiatives such as the Solar Kauthig mass awareness campaign, street plays, and special training programmes for officials have helped raise widespread awareness about solar energy across the state. He also acknowledged the support and significant contribution of the CEEW team.

The Chief Minister stated that the government’s aim extends beyond installing solar plants to making every citizen an active participant in the clean energy revolution. He emphasised that widespread solar energy adoption will reduce electricity expenses for citizens, strengthen environmental conservation, and ensure a clean, safe, and green future for coming generations.

Expressing confidence, Dhami said Uttarakhand will emerge as an inspiring and model state in renewable energy for the entire country in the coming years.
