The Uttarvahini Panchkoshi Narmada Parikrama in Gujarat will commence on March 19 and continue until April 17, marking a 30-day pilgrimage deeply rooted in faith and spiritual significance.
The Gujarat government annually undertakes significant preparations to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, extensive arrangements worth around ₹10 crore are being made by the Gujarat Pavitra Yatra Dham Vikas Board (GPYVB) for the 2025-26 Parikrama.
Temporary facilities, previously established at a cost of ₹5.41 crore, are being enhanced. These include dome shelters, mobile toilets, water stations, medical units, 24/7 ambulances, lighting, emergency help points and a large waterproof dome equipped with cots, mattresses, cushions, chairs and bed sheets for pilgrims to rest. Additional provisions comprise bathrooms, changing rooms, cloakrooms, service centres and shops.
GPYVB has ensured cleanliness and hygiene through the installation of temporary and mobile toilets, bathing facilities, a steady water supply, drainage and waste disposal systems. Housekeeping teams will operate in shifts to maintain the area's cleanliness throughout the Parikrama.
Security measures include police booths, security cabins and watchtowers staffed by trained personnel. Barricades and technological systems such as infrared (IR) and radio frequency identification (RFID) will be used to monitor pilgrim movement and manage crowds. Extensive LED and floodlighting will illuminate the route and ghats during nighttime for pilgrims' safety. Sound systems, wireless communication and CCTV surveillance will be monitored continuously by technical operators.
Permanent infrastructure improvements, completed at a cost of ₹5.07 crore, cover various locations: a paver block pathway, facility centre, drinking water tank, solar lights and toilet block at Madhi Devasthan (₹99.68 lakh); a retaining wall, Parikramaarthi facility centre, toilet, drinking water, renovation of pilgrim residence, shed, electrification, borewell, solar lights and drainage system at Siddhatekri Ram Kund (₹226.93 lakh); and a Parikramaarthi facility centre, toilet, drinking water, electrification and pathway at Balbala Kund (₹149.87 lakh).
The government of Gujarat, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and directed by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, continues to support and promote the state's centuries-old cultural and spiritual traditions.
