Rail Minister Piyush Goyal rides on Jan Shatabdi express, takes feedback from passengers
New Delhi: Reaching out to the common passengers of Indian Railways and making their journey safe and comfortable has been of topmost priority for the incumbent government.
This week, the Railway Minister Piyush Goyal made a surprise visit to a Railway platform and also undertook a ride on the Kota JanShatabdi Express.
The Minister inspected the condition of trains, their daily operations and was also briefed by the officials about safety and security of passengers on trains.
The Railway Minister took an unexpected ride on the Kota JanShatabdi Express and also took direct feedback from the passengers on trains.
The Minister personally interacted with a couple of passengers, took their views on how to improve services in trains.
The Rail Minister's train ride comes in wake of string of derailments in past few months.
The Railway Minister is also pushing to make the Railways more faster and less time-consuming. The Railways has adopted "innovative timetabling" under which running time of popular trains will reduce by 15 minutes to two hours.
Soon, the Railways will cut short the running time of over 500 long distance trains by up to two hours.
The new timings will be updated in the November timetable of the railways, a senior official has said.
Earlier this month, the Railway minister had averred that the Railway Board is meeting once every week and treating all pending matters expeditiously.
Goyal had also stated that to ensure safety of Railways, zonal general managers were given unlimited powers to take decisions as and when needed.
