Barely a month after the inauguration of the massive Ganga Expressway project, questions are now being raised over the quality of its construction after videos showing alleged cracks and sinking portions of the road surfaced online.
The 594-kilometre-long Ganga Expressway, built at an estimated cost of nearly ₹36,230 crore, was inaugurated on April 29, 2026, by Narendra Modi in Hardoi. The project was hailed as one of Uttar Pradesh's biggest infrastructure achievements, aimed at improving connectivity between Meerut and Prayagraj and boosting economic growth across the state.
However, social media platforms and several news portals are now flooded with videos and claims suggesting that some stretches of the newly built expressway are already showing signs of damage. According to the viral posts, cracks have reportedly appeared on parts of the road, while certain sections are allegedly sinking under the pressure of heavy vehicles.
The controversy intensified after a video shared on X by user Kapil Jyani went viral online. The video allegedly shows damaged portions of the expressway and has triggered widespread criticism and concern among social media users regarding the durability and quality of the project.
The main construction work of the expressway was carried out under the supervision of Adani Enterprises. With visuals of the alleged damage circulating widely, opposition leaders and members of the public have started questioning the standards of construction, monitoring mechanisms, and accountability of contractors involved in the mega project.
Infrastructure experts often point out that the appearance of cracks, potholes, or road subsidence within weeks of inauguration raises serious concerns about material quality, engineering standards, and project execution. Many users online have also demanded an immediate technical inspection and transparent investigation into the matter.
So far, authorities have not issued any detailed official statement regarding the viral claims or the exact condition of the affected stretches. Meanwhile, the videos continue to attract attention online, keeping the spotlight firmly on one of the state's most high-profile infrastructure projects.
