DK Shivakumar won his first Assembly election in 1989 from Sathanur constituency. After that, his political graph kept moving upward.

Even during tax raids, legal troubles and jail time in 2019, he remained politically active. Supporters say his biggest strength was refusing to give up during pressure.

Years of loyalty to Congress slowly brought him bigger positions. He handled major ministries like Water Resources, Energy and Medical Education during different governments.
His organisational skills finally helped him become Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president. That role increased his political power across the state.
Later, he achieved one of the biggest moments of his career by becoming Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister.
