Italy's PM Giorgia Meloni orders Pak Imam to leave country

Newstrack 1 year ago

Italy has issued an order to expel 54-year-old Pakistani Imam Zulfiqar Khan from the country due to his radical, anti-West, anti-Semitic, anti-gay statements.

Khan started living in Italy in 1995, but since 2023 his ideology and activities were moving towards radicalism. He openly praised Hamas and posted hate-filled videos against Western countries. Italy saw him as a potential security threat, and his permit was revoked.

The Giorgia Meloni-led government in Italy has signed the papers related to Zulfiqar Khan on 8 October 2024, after which it will be easy to expel him from the country. Zulfiqar Khan was constantly giving such statements, which were against the rules of the Italian government. Anti-women sentiments were also reflected in his speech. The limit was crossed when Zulfiqar started speaking ill against Italy itself.

Zulfiqar Khan has publicly made statements that were seen as harmful to the country that granted him asylum. He advocated for Muslims to protest against paying government taxes, claimed that all the resources of the country should remain within the Muslim community, and described homosexuality as a disease that needed to be cured.

After the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, Khan posted several videos from November 2023 to April 2024. In these videos, he labeled people from countries such as the US, Germany, France, the UK, and Italy as supporters of the nefarious Zionist agenda. He also praised Hamas during a sermon at a mosque in May 2024. He argued that Hamas was protecting its land and labelled Americans and Israelis as terrorists and murderers.
