Netflix's British drama Adolescence has now become the second most-watched English-language series on the platform, overtaking Stranger Things Season 4 . Since its release in March, the limited series has racked up an impressive 141.2 million views, placing it just behind Wednesday , which still holds the top spot with 252.1 million views in its first 91 days.
The update comes after Adolescence received major recognition at the Gotham TV Awards in New York, where it won multiple awards and made waves across the streaming world.
Big Night at Gotham TV Awards
The Gotham TV Awards proved to be a proud moment for the Adolescence team. The series took home the trophy for Breakthrough Limited Series, and its lead actors Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper also won acting awards for their performances.
The Guardian quoted Graham's emotional acceptance speech, where he expressed his appreciation for the audience's love and support.
"We're overwhelmed for you to embrace us the way you have," he said. "This was a small colloquial piece that was made with love, respect, humility and dignity, and we treated the subject with a lot of passion, but a lot of care."
Graham played Eddie Miller, the father of the teenage boy at the center of the show's gripping plot.
The Story Behind Adolescence
Adolescence follows the life of a 13-year-old boy who gets arrested after being accused of murdering a female classmate. The show dives deep into his personal and family life, exploring the emotional and social consequences of the accusation.
The series has been praised for its intense storytelling, strong performances, sharp writing, beautiful cinematography, and its sensitive portrayal of real-life issues. It has sparked meaningful conversations on online misogyny, youth violence, and the pressures faced by teenagers in today's digital world.
Is Season 2 in the Works?
Although Adolescence was originally created as a limited series, fans may not have to say goodbye just yet. Creator Hannah Walters and lead actor Stephen Graham told Variety earlier that Season 2 is a possibility.
There's no official confirmation yet, but they hinted that they are open to developing a follow-up if the right story comes together.
Adolescence: Bigger And Better
With 141.2 million views, Adolescence has now become Netflix's second-biggest English-language TV series, beating out Stranger Things Season 4 (which recorded 140.7 million views). Only Jenna Ortega's Wednesday remains ahead in the race.
As Adolescence continues to gain popularity and critical acclaim, the buzz around a potential second season is growing. For now, though, the team is basking in the global recognition-and well-deserved celebration-for what many are calling one of the most powerful and important shows of the year.
