Delhi Weather: Delhi and nearby regions saw major relief on Thursday evening as heavy rain and thunderstorms ended a severe heatwave spell that had gripped the National Capital Region for several days.

IMD Issues Orange Alert, Warns Of Strong Winds
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued an orange alert, forecasting thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rain, and strong winds reaching 50-60 km/h, with gusts up to 70 km/h.
According to weather expert Mahesh Palawat from Skymet, thunderstorm activity began over northern Rajasthan and moved towards Delhi. He said the spell is likely to intensify and continue until May 30 before shifting towards Gujarat.
Stronger Pre-Monsoon Spell Expected
Experts have noted that this pre-monsoon phase may be more intense than earlier showers seen in April and early May, bringing widespread rainfall across the region over the coming days.
Flight Operations Disrupted At Delhi Airport
The sudden weather change affected flight schedules at Delhi Airport. IndiGo and SpiceJet issued advisories warning passengers of delays and disruptions due to bad weather. Delhi Airport authorities also alerted travelers about possible delays and advised passengers to check flight status and consider alternate transport like the Delhi Metro to avoid inconvenience.
