Agaratala: The Tripura government has directed that 50 per cent of Group C and D employees will work from home with immediate effect, according to an official memorandum issued on Wednesday.
The directive comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent appeal to citizens and institutions to conserve fuel and adopt work-from-home arrangements wherever possible.
In the memorandum, Special Secretary of the General Administration (GA) Department A.K. Bhattacharjee stated that Heads of Departments (HoDs) must ensure that only 50 per cent of Group C and D employees attend office daily, while the remaining staff will work from home.
"All HoDs are advised to prepare a weekly roster for Group C and D employees and deploy them on an alternate-week basis. While preparing the roster for the first week, preference may be given to employees residing close to their offices," the memorandum said.
It further stated that employees working from home as per the roster must remain accessible through telephone and other electronic communication at all times. They will also be required to report to the office if called in for any urgent work.
The memorandum also instructed that similar guidelines be issued to public sector undertakings (PSUs), local bodies, and other autonomous or statutory bodies, as well as subordinate offices under the state government. The order will remain in force with immediate effect until further notice.
However, the arrangement will not apply to offices and personnel engaged in essential and emergency services, it added.
Tripura currently has around one lakh government employees, with a majority belonging to the Group C and D categories.
