North East News 1 week ago

Guwahati: The Indian Army's Gajraj Corps on Wednesday organised a Military-Civil Fusion Seminar titled "Sonitpur SAMVAD" at Tezpur in Assam, bringing together stakeholders from government agencies, security forces, academic institutions and healthcare sectors to strengthen civil-military cooperation and support nation-building initiatives.

The seminar was held under the theme "Samoohik Prayas Se Rashtranirman" and guided by the principle of "Rashtra Sarvopari", with discussions focused on enhancing coordination and institutional collaboration during the country's ongoing Amrit Kaal phase.

Officials said the acronym SAMVAD stands for Samanvay, Aatmanirbharta, Mansik Dridhta, Vishwas aur Vikas, reflecting the broader vision of inclusive development and national progress.

Participants included representatives from Tezpur University, the Sashastra Seema Bal, Assam Police, municipal authorities, the forest department, private healthcare institutions, skill development centres, and members of the Bar Council, along with officials from Tezpur and Missamari.

Addressing the gathering, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Gajraj Corps highlighted "JAI" - Jointness, Aatmanirbharta and Innovation - as a key framework for building a resilient and future-ready India in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The officer emphasised the need for coordinated efforts, institutional convergence and timely execution of developmental goals to strengthen regional resilience and contribute to national growth.

A major outcome of the seminar was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health and Army hospitals under Gajraj Corps.

The collaboration aims to promote holistic mental healthcare through clinical support, training programmes, research partnerships and community outreach initiatives.

Officials described the partnership as an important step towards integrated development and stronger institutional cooperation, while also highlighting the role of mental well-being in collective nation-building.

Headquartered in Tezpur, the Gajraj Corps was originally raised in 1942 for the defence of Assam during World War II and was re-raised in October 1962 ahead of the Sino-Indian War.

The Corps later played a major role in the 1971 India-Pakistan war, particularly during operations linked to the liberation of Bangladesh, including the historic Meghna Heli Bridge operation led by Lieutenant General Sagat Singh.
